||Vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant has been, what we like to label at the Jazz Series, "on the short list" - and for quite some time. We're pleased to present her as part of the 2017/2018 season. The most celebrated vocalist of her generation, still in her 20s, Cécile McLorin Salvant was born and raised in Miami, of a French mother and a Haitian father. While she studied voice privately early on, she did not learn about jazz or sing in her first band until she moved to Aix-en-Provence, France to study law at the Darius Milhaud Conservatory. In 2009, she recorded her first album, Cécile; a year later, she won the Thelonious Monk competition in Washington D.C. Her career has since skyrocketed as she now headlines and appears all around the world. For her first Jazz Series appearance, Salvant is supported by a solid trio: pianist Sullivan Fortner, bassist Paul Sikivie, and Lawrence Leathers.
