FULTON- Fulton Medical Center is getting a new name along with its new owner.
It will soon be called Christian Memorial Hospital of Callaway County.
Columbia Board of Education to vote against Broadway Hotel TIF

COLUMBIA - The Columbia Board of Education met Thursday and unanimously decided to vote 'no' on The Broadway Columbia's tax increment financing, or TIF, request.
The hotel's owner, David Parmley, applied for the TIF in April asking the city for an approximately $2 million tax break for the construction of a second hotel tower.
Elm Street to open Friday after improvements to sewer lines

COLUMBIA - Elm Street will open on Friday after five months of construction. Patricia Hayles with Columbia Sewer Utility said the road closed in May to avoid MU students.
The construction included upgrades to the sewer system and is part of the Flat Branch Sewer Relief Project. The project helps to address overflows in the sewer lines due to heavy rains.
Public defenders not allowed to refuse cases without permission

COLUMBIA - The Missouri Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that public defenders may not turn away clients without first getting permission from a county judge.
The ruling came in response to a Stoddard County public defender who refused three clients because he said he didn't have enough time for the clients he already represented.
Shuttle service left out of the loop during campus emergency

COLUMBIA– A shuttle service responsible for bringing residents back-and-forth to campus is citing a communication breakdown for its slow response to Wednesday's threat on MU's campus.
Green Way Shuttles said without access to MU Alert, the university's emergency monitoring system, its response to active threats on campus is delayed.
Missouri proposes innovative corridor for Amazon headquarters

COLUMBIA - On Thursday Missouri officials officially announced its proposal to attract Amazon's second headquarters to Missouri.
Governor Eric Greitens said Missouri would love to welcome Amazon headquarters to the state. The proposal encourages Amazon to consider St. Louis or Kansas City for its second headquarters and expand across an "innovation corridor" to the other city in the future.
Missouri Rep. McGaugh appointed as judge in Carroll County

JEFFERSON CITY (AP) — Gov. Eric Greitens has appointed a Republican Missouri House member to serve as an associate circuit judge in Carroll County.
The appointment announced Thursday for Rep. Joe Don McGaugh will require him to resign from the Legislature.
City of Columbia recognized for LGBTQ equality efforts

COLUMBIA -- The City of Columbia received recognition for its efforts in working towards LGBTQ equality.
The city earned an All Star rating and a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign's Municipal Equality Index.
Social media threat results in Fulton teen's arrest

FULTON -- A South Callaway High School student is accused of sending out a threatening Snapchat.
Police said the snap featured a photo of Gage Quick displaying a pistol and was captioned, "Y'all better be ready for what goin down when get back to school."
Missouri woman pleaded to charge related to embezzlement

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A Kansas City woman had pleaded guilty to failing to pay taxes on at least $466,000 in a charge related to embezzling from her family's company.
Fifty-six-year-old Tammera Goodman pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court. She was an officer manager at Restoration Remediation Resources Corp. Prosecutors say she unlawfully used the business' funds to pay at least seven personal credit cards she used for personal spending. She also wrote at least 26 fraudulent unauthorized checks to herself, and used business funds to pay her personal mortgage.
