Missouri starts search for next top education official

JEFFERSON CITY (AP) — The search for Missouri's next top education official has started.
The State Board of Education will begin accepting applications for education commissioner Friday. Board members on Thursday voted 5-3 to cut off applications Jan. 8, the day before their next meeting.
Emergency responders receive radiological training

MOBERLY - Fire and law enforcement officers from three counties received radiological training Thursday at the Moberly Fire Department.
The Radiological Emergency Program Coordinator from the Department of Health and Senior Services said the training provides them with the knowledge and skills to be able to respond to an incident involving radioactive material.
UPDATE: Moberly assault suspect taken into custody without incident

UPDATE: Suspect Monquail Williams has been taken into custody in Boone County without incident.
According to Corporal Andy Boggs of the Moberly Police Department, Williams is being held on charges of first degree domestic assault and first degree assault with a $100,000 cash only bond.

City's new brine-machine makes it easier to clear snowy roads

COLUMBIA - The City of Columbia has new aid in fighting snowy roads this with the help of its new brine-making machine.
With money they saved due to mild winter weather during late 2016 and early 2017, the city was able to purchase brine-making equipment.
Pig waste leak getting cleaned up

AUDRAIN COUNTY – One Missouri farmer is righting his wrong following a pig waste leakage into a nearby creek.
Dale Brinker finished cleaning his farm before leaving on a rare vacation with his wife. He closed up shop and took off, but, when he came back, he had an issue.
Jefferson City police investigate Wednesday night shooting

JEFFERSON CITY - Authorities are investigating a Wednesday night shooting which injured a 19-year-old Jefferson City resident, police said in a news release.
Police responded to the 200 block of Center St. around 9 p.m. for calls of shots fired, and later learned of a gunshot victim at the Capital Region Medical Center.
Callaway County schools donate thousands of toys to Toys for Tots

COLUMBIA - Callaway County schools donated more than 9,200 toys to Toys for Tots Thursday.
"We're excited," coordinator Melissa Barnes said. "Tonight is our first night where we pass out toys. There are many children that are going to be happy."
Columbia police begin carrying naloxone

COLUMBIA - Police now have 75 kits with the opioid overdose reversal medication naloxone, which is also known as Narcan.
Columbia officers have been trained over the past few months in how to use the nasal spray.
