        (CNN) -- Russian intelligence operatives attempted to hack into the online accounts of staffers on three congressional campaigns in the upcoming midterm elections, a Microsoft executive said Thursday, marking the first public acknowledgment of a Russian attack on a 2018 race.

    Speaking at the Aspen Security Forum, Tom Burt, Microsoft's corporate vice president for customer security and trust, said the technology firm had earlier this year detected a fake domain that was likely used as part of phishing attacks directed at the three campaigns.

        (CNN) -- A cardiologist who treated former President George H.W. Bush was killed Friday morning in a bicycle-to-bicycle drive-by shooting near Texas Medical Center in Houston, authorities said.

    Dr. Mark Hausknecht and the shooter were both riding bikes on South Main Street, near Texas Children's Pavilion for Women, shortly before 9 a.m. local time, Executive Assistant Police Chief Troy Finner said at a news conference.

    CALLAWAY COUNTY - A Steedman man was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of domestic assault, tampering with a victim in a felony prosecution and felony stealing.

    Rusty Rudd, 28, admitted to physically assaulting two women while he was in a relationship with them according to Christopher D. Wilson, the Callaway County Prosecuting Attorney.

    ST. JOSEPH (AP) — A Missouri man has pleaded guilty in the fatal beating of his 77-year-old grandmother while he was drinking alcohol and taking prescription drugs.

    Robert Forrester pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree murder in last September's death of Beverly Forrester of St. Joseph. The 29-year-old grandson faces up to life in prison when he's sentenced later this year.

    (CNN) -- The FBI is in possession of a recording between President Donald Trump and his former personal attorney Michael Cohen in which the two men prior to the election discuss a payment to a former Playboy model who has alleged an affair with Trump, Rudy Giuliani and a source familiar with the matter told CNN Friday.

    Cohen has other recordings of the President in his records that were seized by the FBI, said both a source with knowledge of Cohen's tapes and Giuliani, who described the other recordings as mundane discussions. Another source with knowledge of the tape, however, said the conversation is not as Giuliani described and is not good for the President, though the source would not elaborate.

    COLE COUNTY — The Cole County Sheriff’s Department responded to possible weapons violation on Thursday night.

    When the officers arrived to the scene, it was determined that there were two intoxicated subjects, one male and one female. They were both shooting fireworks.
