Cole County authorities investigating shooting

COLE COUNTY - The Cole County Sheriff's Department said it is investigating a shooting that happened Wednesday night.Chief Deputy John Wheeler said one person was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening wounds.The sheriff's department said the victim is not cooperating, so authorities don't really know where the incident happened.The victim was originally taken to the Capital Region Medical Center, but was then transferred to MU Hospital's Trauma Center.
Michael Porter Jr. recovering after back surgery

COLUMBIA - Missouri basketball star Michael Porter Jr. is recovering after undergoing surgery in Dallas Tuesday. MU said he will likely miss the rest of the season.
Porter underwent a microdiscectomy of the L3-L4 spinal discs. The procedure has a projected recovery time of three to four months.
Columbia police releases surveillance photos from armed robbery

COLUMBIA - On Wednesday, Columbia police released photos of an October armed robbery at Dash Liquor.
On October 29, police responded to Dash Liquor on Paris Road after a man entered the business wearing a mask, displayed a handgun and demanded money from the cash register.
Columbia man involved in deadly shooting indicted on gun charge

COLUMBIA - A Columbia man involved in a deadly shooting in May has been indicted by a federal grand jury on a gun charge.
Ricky Gurley, 50, was indicted for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Traffic and gas prices increase during Thanksgiving

JEFFERSON CITY – With Thanksgiving comes a lot more traffic on the roads. In fact, according to AAA there will be about 25,000 more people on the road this year than last in Missouri alone.
AAA expects to see around 45.5 million people on the road nationwide.
Attorney General Josh Hawley investigating Uber data breach

JEFFERSON CITY - Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley sent a letter to Uber on Wednesday demanding the rideshare take immediate action to notify all affected consumers following a data breach.
Hawley also asked Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi to protect consumers' personal information and prevent future breaches. Hawley said his office will investigate the Uber data breach and whether Uber’s ensuing conduct violated Missouri consumer-protection and data-privacy laws.
Morgan County detective apologizes for shooting, killing family dog

BARNETT, Mo - A Morgan County detective is apologizing after shooting and killing a family's dog.
He was attempting to find Anthony Scott, who has a warrant. The homeowner, Joyce Scott, said Anthony was her son but has not lived there for a month and a half.
City Council postpones new middle school plan in South Columbia

COLUMBIA - City Council voted 4-2 on Monday to postpone a preliminary plat for Columbia Public Schools’ new middle school until mid-January.
CPS purchased the 63-acre lot at the end of September. The property, located near Mill Creek Elementary School, is intended to help remove crowding at Gentry Middle School and to account for growth in South Columbia.
Jury in deadly crash trial to be selected in Clay County

COLUMBIA - A Boone County judge approved a change of venue request for a man accused in a deadly October bus crash.
Brandon Brill, 26, is charged with second-degree murder for allegedly causing the crash which killed Harrisburg teacher and coach Brian Simpson. At the time of the crash, Simpson was driving a school bus with the Harrisburg girls' cross country team.
Police arrest man for robberies from October

COLUMBIA - The Boone County Prosecutor's Office filed more charges Wednesday against a man arrested for two robberies in October.
Tony Davis, 51, now faces two counts of robbery and one count each of armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon for the robberies.
