Mizzou's Lock Earns Awards for 2nd Straight WeekPosted on 30 October 2017 at 4:41pm
COLUMBIA – Junior quarterback Drew Lock has always been given high accolades for a majority of his career despite the lack-luster performances of the Mizzou teams he has played on.
A top eleven quarterback in the 2019 class, according to Elite-11, and a consensus four-star out of high school, Lock came into the SEC spotlight being praised by coaches for having a “Sunday arm” as South Carolina Head Coach Will Muschamp said about Lock.
But now Lock can now receive both the admiration while winning as he received his second straight “Manning Star Award” after picking up his second straight win for the Tigers. The Manning Star Award is an award decided weekly by the Manning Award Committee and the Sugar Bowl, and former winners include current NFL quarterbacks Deshaun Watson, Cam Newton, Marcus Mariota, Matt Ryan and Jameis Winston.
Lock’s two straight wins over Idaho and UConn made the first win streak for the Tigers in the Odom Era and Odom’s QB was a huge reason for that.
The junior from Lee’s Summit combined for 844 yards, eleven touchdowns and 54 completions in the wins over the Vandals and Huskies.
One of Lock’s favorite receivers has been Albert Okwuegbunam, the redshirt-freshman from Springfield, Illinois, and the newfound favorite has found himself not only a starting spot on the explosive offense but also the awards that come with five touchdowns in the past two weeks.
Catching two touchdowns against UConn and three against Idaho, the young tight end found himself the SEC Offensive Co-Freshman of the Week last week, and his success has largely been due to Lock’s stellar performance during that span.
Lock will try and lead the Tigers to a three-game win streak as they come home to play Florida (3-4) at 11:00 AM CT.
Florida, a top 25 defense in terms of yards given up, will be a large test for Lock and the Tigers as they hope to take down the Gators and gain some ground in the SEC East.
