COLUMBIA - Missouri women's basketball failed to reach the threshold of a top 10 ranking, after the Associated Press listed the Tigers at No. 11 Monday.
Missouri is having a record-breaking season, setting the best start in program history, 17-2 (5-1 SEC).
The Tigers already have a commanding victory over South Carolina Jan. 7, and will have further opportunities to bolster their resume. In the coming weeks the Tigers will compete in a rematch versus the No. 9 Gamecocks and No. 2 Mississippi State.
The previous contest between the Gamecocks and the Tigers featured a big night for Missouri guard Sophie Cunningham. Following a knee injury, she sunk nine out of 10 field goals and nine of 11 shots from the line, unleashing 27 points.
Missouri controlled Gamecocks forward A'Ja Wilson for most of the game, as well. She played 19 minutes of the 40 minute contest after fouling out, and was held to eight points.
Missouri plays No. 21 Georgia on Wednesday. Georgia and Missouri are currently tied in the SEC standings.
The rematch with South Carolina will be on the road Sunday, Jan. 28.
