JEFFERSON CITY - A kitchen fire damaged one unit of an apartment building in Jefferson City. Five adults and two children have been displaced.
It happened in the 200 block of Center Street on Friday.
The first responding fire crew reported smoke coming from the second floor of building. Firefighters quickly put out the fire while other units confirmed all the people inside got out.
Fire damaged the kitchen, and the rest of the apartment was damaged by smoke and water.
The Red Cross is helping the displaced residents.
The Jefferson City Fire Department said this is a good time to remind people not to use cooking appliances to heat living spaces.
The cause of the fire, however, has not been determined.
