11-year-old Killed in ATV Accident
SALEM - An 11-year-old boy was killed Saturday afternoon after the ATV he was driving overturned on top of him near Salem.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports Preston Gill was traveling too fast for conditions around 1:35 p.m. when exited the roadway and crashed the vehicle.
Gill was transported to Salem Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead at 2:33 p.m.
This comes after a similar accident in Randolph County about two weeks ago when a 12-year-old overturned an ATV in Randolph County and was killed.
In both incidents the driver was not wearing a helmet. Legal driving age to operate an ATV in Missouri is 16. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says drivers of ATVs need to be of legal age, wear a helmet and be under supervision at all times.
