2 More St. Louis-Area Deaths Blamed On Heat
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Two more deaths in the St. Louis area are blamed on the heat, bringing the death toll to 16 in the region.
The St. Louis Health Department says Earline Walker's family found her at her home on July 24. The home had air conditioners but they were blowing hot air.
The St. Louis County medical examiner's office says 73-year-old Shirley DeClue's body was found Thursday in her home in Ferguson. The home had an air conditioner that wasn't on. Officials say DeClue may have been dead as long as two weeks.
Health officials urged neighbors and relatives to check to see if air conditioners of elderly residents are working properly. In 10 of the 16 deaths in the region, homes had air conditioners that were either off or not working.
