200 Turn Out for 1st Annual Columbia Home Brew Fest
COLUMBIA - Two hundred people turned out for the first annual Barley & Hops Hoopla home brew festival Saturday night at Stephens Lake Park.
Kenneth Pigg, a retired MU professor who is one of the organizers of the event, said a recent change in the law made it possible to hold the fest.
"The state legislature recently permitted home brewers to participate in festivities where prior to that legislation they could only serve friends and family out of the home," Pigg said.
Pigg added that about nine people were competing in a home brew competition.
The event, which included a raffle, was a fundraiser for the Access to Healthy Food Program (AHF) sponsored by Sustainable Farms and Communities.
