2011 Legislative Session Kicks Off
JEFFERSON CITY - Lawmakers headed back to work Wednesday with a heavy agenda. President Pro Tem Senator Rob Mayer announced the top priorities for the Missouri Senate. He said the most difficult, yet most important, challenge is to balance the state's budget.
Senator Mayer said the Senate will work towards this goal by creating jobs, maintaining K-12 school funding, and reducing the size and scope of state government.
Minority leaders said they will work as a whole with the Senate to create a manageable budget.
The Senate will hold a "Rebooting the Government" initiative next week where members said they hope to find ways to save taxpayers money.
