JEFFERSON CITY - The Fourth of July is right around the corner, and that means a boom in business for fireworks vendors. But for some stands, it's their last holiday rush in their current location.
In 2006, Jefferson City annexed an area near the intersection of Edgewood and Stadium Boulevard. The city gave fireworks vendors seven years to continue to sell fireworks, but then those stands would have to follow the Jefferson City ordinance banning the sale of fireworks within city limits. After this year, the seven year period is up and the stands currently in the area annexed in 2006 will have to move. Right now the vendors in that area are the only place you can buy fireworks within the Jefferson City limits.
Saturn Fireworks is located off of Edgewood and will have to move next year. The stand has been at that location for about 10 years, but the owner said moving is something that comes with being a seasonal shop.
Next year Saturn Fireworks plans to move its tent. The owner said he is looking at lots outside of the Jefferson City limits and also near Columbia and Kingdom City.
