2014 named the hottest year on record
COLUMBIA - Scientists said 2014 was the hottest year on Earth in the past 135 years of record-keeping.
The announcement marks the third time in the decade that scientists reported record-setting warmth on a yearly basis. Climate scientists expect Earth to keep getting hotter due to an abundance of greenhouse gases.
Some Mid-Missouri residents are taking advantage of this past year's warmth.
"Having sunny warm days in the winter is amazing, the wind is a little much but for the most part, to be outside all year round helps us get outside and get outdoors and it's really busy here today so we're not the only ones taking advantage of it." Columbia resident Ladessa Nachbor said.
The previous hottest year on record was in 2010.
