3 Sentenced in Mo. Murder-For-Hire Scheme
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Three people have been sentenced to prison in a plot to kill a witness to a murder.
Lawrence Wallace of Detroit was sentenced to more than 12 years. Cortez Brown and Anishika Linai Ward, both of St. Louis, each were sentenced to more than seven years. All three pleaded guilty in May in the murder-for-hire plot, and Wallace also pleaded guilty to being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
The plot involved a 2008 murder case against Kenneth Sills of St. Louis. Two juries failed to reach a verdict. The U.S. Attorney's office says two of Sill's relatives wanted to eliminate a witness before the third trial. The witness was not harmed and went on to testify.
Sills' brother, Robert, also pleaded guilty and faces sentencing next month.
