6-Year-Old Markell Beasley Reported Dead Hours after Amber Alert
(JEFFERSON CITY) - Jefferson City police say 6-year-old Markell Beasley is dead following a shots fired incident.
The boy was reported missing Wednesday and an Amber Alert issued after Markell's mother reported the boy's father had taken him under false pretenses.
Jefferson City police detectives began working with the FBI and got information that Markell and his father, Demetrius Beasley were in Cape Girardeau.
Investigators responded to a shots fired incident within their jurisdiction, but JCPD has not announced the manner or cause of death.
Markell's mother says she allowed him to travel to St. Louis to be with his father for a holiday gathering, but later learned there was no party and Demetrius Beasley did not intend to return Markell.
JCPD said further information on the case may be made available at 8 a.m. Thursday.
