A Day of Prayer
The event takes place throughout the state and country on the first Thursday of May. Organizers hope the event will bring out people from all faiths together to worship, despite the differences in religion.
This event has been going on since the 1700's. The Continental Congress declared a day set aside for prayer to help a new nation come together. While there has been some disagreement in the past as to whether or not it is considered constitutionally right for the U.S. government to set aside a day for prayer, it was signed into effect in 1952.
The hope is everyone from every religion will get together to worship.
