A Pianist Gives Back
Now 82, Degnan promises to give the MU School of Music $1 million in her estate. The school hopes this money will help build a new facility.
"It will contain elements, facilities that will enhance our program, better rehearsal facilities, better classrooms, a concert hall," Melvin Platt, from MU's School of Music, said.
Michael Ingram has been using the rehearsal rooms at the School of Fine Arts for several years.
"The facilities are very good as it is, they have lots of rooms and nice pianos...well-maintained instruments, but it could always be better of course," Ingram said.
Multiple MU students receiving national recognition in recent years inspired Degnan, now living in Arizona, to give the school her donation. Ingram hopes this money goes to his and Degnan's passion.
"I'm always for more grand pianos," he said.
The School of Music does not have plans yet for the new building.
