COLUMBIA - Public works officials announced Monday Delta Airlines will end flights to Memphis, Tennessee after Nov. 2. The airline will temporarily eliminate the early morning flight to Memphis like it has in past winters. Delta will replace its morning flights to Memphis with flights going to Atlanta beginning march 3, 2013. At that time, Delta will offer three daily connections between Columbia and Atlanta, but none to Memphis.
Columbia airport advisory board chairman Gregory Cecil said, "The Memphis airport is being down-sized as far as Delta operation goes."
Under the new schedule, there will be three flights to and from Atlanta on Sundays through Fridays, with two flights Saturdays.
Cecil said this may just be the beginning of new flights added to the Columbia Regional Airport flight schedule. "We're always looking for new destinations. Everyone wants to go to Dallas and Chicago. It's just difficult to get everything set up."
Frontier Airlines just announced last week the addition of two flights a week to Orlando.
