Ameren opens southeast Missouri substation
CAPE GIRARDEAU (AP) - The state's largest utility says a new $80 million project in southeast Missouri will improve electrical power service and create up to 200 construction jobs.
Ameren Missouri broke ground on a new substation between Cape Girardeau and Gordonville Friday. The Southeast Missourian reports that company officials say the regional upgrade will improve power reliability but also result in an eventual increase to customer's bills.
Local business and political leaders say the expansion will help the region better accommodate economic development.
The program upgrades also include new and replacement transmission lines to several existing substations in Cape Girardeau.
