ST. LOUIS -- Stephanie Kirvan was named the American Midwest Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 7, it was announced by the league office on Monday. The senior spearheaded a William Woods defensive unit that allowed just five shots on goal over a two game span.
In addition to leading a stout defense that limited Harris-Stowe State University to just one shot in WWU's 8-0 AMC win, Kirvan notched two goals and an assist on the week. Against the Hornets she buried a penalty kick in the 63rd minute and added a free kick goal from more than 35 yards out in the 76th minute.
She also added an assist on the game-winning goal in WWU's 3-1 comeback win at Lindenwood-Belleville on Sunday.
It is her second career weekly nod, as she previously earned Offensive Player of the Week honors in 2011.
The Owls return to AMC play on Tuesday night, hosting Columbia College for Greek night. Kickoff for the match is set for 5 p.m.
Columbia College's Kelly Ross was recognized as the AMC Offensive Player of the Week.
