American Red Cross Dribbles for Dollars
JEFFERSON CITY - The American Red Cross Heart of Missouri Chapter held its first annual Disaster Dunk Basketball Tournament Saturday at Jefferson City High School.
Local emergency services personnel played one another in a double-elimination co-ed tournament.
Six teams went head-to-head to raise money for disaster relief services.
Each team paid 200 dollars to enter the contest and spectators paid two dollars to watch.
American Red Cross Board Member, Kayla Wilbers, said she was very happy about the turnout and expected to have the event again next year.
"We wanted to so something that everyone wasn't doing necessarily here in our community so we thought basketball would probably be fun and with March Madness we kind of thought there was a highlight around basketball," said Wilbers.
Wilbers said she expected to raise anywhere between 500 and 1,000 dollars from the event.
