HOLTS SUMMIT — Animal rescue volunteers removed cats from a residence Monday morning in Holts Summit on Nieman Road.
A press release stated the removal of animals from the residence is a result of complaints filed by neighbors last year.
Officers from the Holts Summit Police Department determined the home owners were keeping as many as 40 cats inside the residence, according to the investigation.
Officers made special arrangements to have a local shelter take the cats in to be adopted. The cats' health still must be cleared by a veterinarian before going up for adoption.
The owners of the residence face charges in Holts Summit Municipal Court with their next appearance scheduled for this Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 1:30 p.m.
