Arrest made after arson investigation
COLUMBIA - The Columbia Police Department arrested Zackary W. La’Roe, 20, and accused him of arson Tuesday afternoon.
The Columbia Fire Department responded to a house fire at a residence on Pendleton Street Tuesday morning.
Investigators said La’Roe purchased gasoline and put it into the container that firefighters found on scene. He poured the gasoline on the ground outside the home and lit the gasoline on fire, they said.
The Columbia Fire Department arrived to the residence at about 11 a.m. Tuesday morning and saw fire and smoke coming from the east side of the single family home.
Firefighters reported finding suspicious items while extinguishing the fire and requested a Columbia Police Department detective and a fire investigator.
Two adults and a dog made it safely out of the house, but several cats have not been accounted for.
