Arrest Made in Higbee Infant Body Discovery
HIGBEE - The Randolph County Sheriff's Department arrested a 25-year-old Moberly woman in connection with the discovery of an infant body on Monday. A passer by found the baby in a duffel bag floating in a pond outisde a rural town of about 600 on Mother's Day. The sheriff's department thinks this woman is the infant's mother but they're waiting on DNA evidence to confirm that. They are not releasing her name at this time.
Officials also believe the woman is a relative of the family who owns the plot of land where the baby was found in a pond. The pond is two miles west of Higbee on Route H and about 35 miles north of Columbia. The Boone County Medical Examiner's Office conducted the autopsy of the baby this afternoon, but the results -- including the exact age of the infant and the time of death -- won't be in until later this week.
Anyone who may have any additional information regarding the infant, or who possibly observed any suspicious activity in the Route H area, should call the Randolph County Sheriff's Department at (660) 277-5095.
