BOONE COUNTY - A detective told KOMU 8 News Tuesday the Boone County Sheriff's Department has "no information" on the whereabouts of an arrested man who escaped from a hospital.

Detective Tom O'Sullivan said 50-year-old John Briley escaped from University Hospital on Friday afternoon. Authorities had arrested him for driving a stolen U-Haul, according to O'Sullivan, but during his arrest, he complained of medical problems.

O'Sullivan said Briley basically walked out the building without staff noticing his absence.

"We don't have the manpower or resources to keep an eye on him 24/7," O'Sullivan said.

O'Sullivan said in some cases, people arrested on more serious criminal charges might require supervision at the hospital, but he said Briley's situation did not warrant that.
