Attorney General Chris Koster Announces Medicaid Fraud Settlement
JEFFERSON CITY - Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster announced a $15 million settlement with Abbott Laboratories on Tuesday.
Koster accused the company of illegal off-label marketing of the drug Depakote, which is used to treat seizures, bipolar disorder, dementia and autism. He said Abbott promoted using Depakote for uses that did not have approval of the federal government.
Koster also alleged Abbott made illegal payments to health care professionals for promotion and prescription of Depakote.
Missouri's $15 million will go to its Medicaid program and comes from a $1.5 billion national settlement.
Koster announced a previous settlement with Abbott on behalf of consumers which is in addition to this settlement
