COLUMBIA - Family, friends and others came together Saturday to show their love and support for 7-year-old Jayden Bevell.

A quarter auction, in which items were priced in increments of 25 cents, brought fun competition to raise money for Jayden and his family. Participants had to bring quarters in order to participate.'

A total of $1,000 was raised for Jayden and his family.

There were 21 vendors present to help auction off items for the cause.

Tastefully Simple consultant Christy Early said the event is for a worthy cause and made it easy to come out to help.

"This cause tonight is for a family in need. Their son has cancer and it breaks my heart and so the money we raise to help that family may make a better tomorrow for them," Early said.

Jayden was diagnosed with cancer in April 2016. He has midline glioma and an optic glioma. These are two of his numerous health conditions. His tumors are stable at this time.

His mother, Karla Bevell, hasn't been able to work due to all the traveling for chemotherapy and other appointments.

"He is home schooled, he loves Legos and PJ Masks. He wants to go to Lego Land and Great Wolf Lodge, but we can barely afford the basics," Bevell said.

Organizer and friend Amber Frideli said, for her, this event meant helping a mom.

"It's all about Jayden, but really the mom struggles and so I was a single mom many years ago, so I kind of get it, so we're going to help pay the bills," she said.
