MEXICO - A man pleaded guilty to 12 felony counts, just before he was set to begin a three-day jury trial in Audrain County Wednesday morning.

34-year-old Travis Kelly pleaded guilty to forcible sodomy, statutory sodomy, child abuse and endangering the welfare of a child, after abusing a then 9-year-old girl in 2014 and 2015.

Kelly received 30 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections by Judge David Mobley.

Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney Jacob Shellabarger said “When this brave young woman came forward, she was so afraid of what Travis Kelly had done to her, and what he said he would do if she ever told. Today, Mr. Kelly took responsibility for three years of threatening and forcing this girl to perform for him sexually. Mr. Kelly took advantage of their family relationship and made her feel as if she had done something wrong when only he was responsible for these terrifying acts.”

Shellabarger also stated the Rainbow House Child Advocacy Center, Mexico Public Safetly Department, Children's Division and community organizations wanted to make sure this case was handled in a professional manner while ensuring the victims safety.

“I want to recognize our community for coming together to support, protect and defend this young woman and her family in an incredibly difficult situation,” Shellabarger said.
