DESOTO - Authorities from the St. Louis area found three children and a 32-year-old woman dead outside the DeSoto limits Thursday. Based on an email and gun found at the scene, authorities believe the deaths to be either murder and/or suicide.

Sheriff Glenn Boyer from Jefferson County stated that the deceased are ages 1, 10 and 11. The female adult is believed to be the children's mother.

The estranged boyfriend of the woman said that he saw what is believed to be the woman's car in front of his apartment at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, according to Sherriff Boyer. In order to abide by the order of protection the woman had against him, he contacted the authorities. The 32-year-old and her estranged boyfriend previously lived together.

Deputies came to the scene and found the children dead in a vehicle parked in front of the home. The woman's body was found at the bottom of the steps leading up to the home.

Sheriff Boyer said a 12-gauge shotgun was found next to the woman's body. All four of the victims had been shot in the head.

The sheriff said the 32-year-old sent an email to family members and the estranged boyfriend at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities stated the estranged boyfriend was the father of the one-year-old child. The father of the other two children is an ex-husband.

The estranged boyfriend is no longer being questioned at the sheriff's department. Their names have not been released pending the notification of family members.

This is an ongoing investigation and this story will be updated as more information becomes available.
