Bank in southeast Columbia robbed
COLUMBIA — A southeast Columbia bank was robbed early Wednesday morning, and both suspects are on the loose.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., the Columbia Police Department responded to a call of an armed robbery at the United Credit Union off of Falling Leaf Lane in Columbia.
According to a CPD official, two men entered the bank, both carrying weapons. One of the men grabbed a teller at the bank and asked for an undisclosed amount of money. They then took the money and fled the scene. No injuries were reported.
CPD information officer Bryana Larimer said robberies tend to go up this time of the year.
"As the holidays roll around, we do tend to see some more robberies. That happened last year, and it happened the year before," Larimer said."With the holidays coming up, we do anticipate seeing more instances like this. We do work to try and be proactive to prevent these as much as possible."
Officers are still investigating the incident.
