Barks for Life Raises Money For Cancer Research
COLUMBIA - Commerce Bank and Bark for Life joined forces to bring a cancer research fundraising event to Stephens Lake Park. The event lasted five hours and offered everything from face painting and a barbecue lunch to residents and their pets.
Columbia Second Chance also let people rent dogs and cats during the festivities as well as adopt afterward. Dogs were able to participate in an animal obstacle course and one cancer survivor spoke on recovering from the disease with the help of her pet.
Ann Warren, a representative of Commerce Bank, said the event helped raise money for cancer research and honored the support pets give to cancer survivors during recovery.
"If they don't have a dog I recommend they get one," Warren said. "Or a cat or any animal that will help comfort and soothe them. The animal might not know what that person is going through, but they know that that person is hurting and needs their love and understanding."
