Baseball Drops Series Finale
STILLWATER, OK - The Missouri Tigers Baseball team lost the series finale to the 23rd ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys in Stillwater, OK, Sunday, 7-3. The loss drops the Tigers to 13-19 on the season and 1-7 in Big 12 conference play.
Mizzou started off the game on the right foot, launching back-to-back home runs in the top of the first inning from sophomore outfielder Blake Brown and senior outfielder Johan Schmidt, putting the Tigers up 2-0 early. Brown's home run was his third straight game with a homer, becoming the first Tiger hit a home run in three straight games since Greg Folgia in 2009.
The Tigers lead was short lived however, as Mizzou starter Dusty Ross, making his first career start, led up two runs in the bottom of the first inning. OSU designated hitter Dane Phillips hit a two-run home run off Ross, knotting the score at 2-2.
The score remained 2-2, until the Cowboys opened up the game, scoring five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, making the score 7-2. Junior pitcher Jeff Emens went only a third of an inning in the fourth and had four runs charged to his credit. Senior pitcher Brad Buehler was charged the other run in the fourth.
The Tigers threatened to make a comeback in the top of the fifth, loading the bases with one out, but only managed to get one run in the inning, cutting the lead to 7-3, where the game finished.
The Tigers return home this week to play a one game series with SIU-Edwardsville on Wednesday, before hosting arch-rival Kansas for a three game series at Taylor Stadium, starting Friday.
