Blair Oaks School District Works to Repay Overpaid Surtax Revenue
JEFFERSON CITY - The Blair Oaks R-II School Board met Monday to work on the issue of overpaid surtax revenue. The closed meeting lasted just a half hour to inform the seven board members about the last week's statistical hearing, according to Superintendent James Jones.
Over the last 20 years, Blair Oaks was overpaid $774,000, Jefferson City School District was over paid $2.4 million, and Cole County overpaid itself by $1.2 million. However, only the overpayment of the last three years would be corrected. Under this agreement, Blair Oaks would be required to return $665,000, which is 85% of the total overpaid revenue.
"We've stayed true to three main points," Jones said."Any repayment amount be true and accurate in the final. The agreement be surtax for surtax. And the agreement be able to speak for itself, meaning that it adresses the past, present and future surtax situation."
The superintendent said the attorney is working on the process, with the possibility of filing a law suit.
