Board Wants to Slow Things Down
Superintendent Dr. Chris Belcher earlier said his goal for Monday night was to slow things down a bit. There was a big range of issues, everything from a comprehensive five year plan for the district to potential social media guidelines. He wants to give the board until June to take action on the long-range plan and table the social media rules all together.
Regulating online relationships between teachers and students is getting a lot of attention from the community. Belcher wanted to wait on it for now because a bill in the Missouri House could make the decision for the district in the next five days. If it passes before the end of this year's legislative session on Friday, every school district in the state would have no choice but to address the issue. The bill would require districts to enact social media guidelines by January of 2011.
