CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri authorities were trying to confirm the identity of a body that was found in the Mississippi River amid debris around a barge south of the Missouri dry docks.
The Southeast Missourian reports the body was found Sunday morning in Cape Girardeau and is believed to be the victim of a drowning.
Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Clifton says the man's body was at the morgue and investigators were trying to identify him and notify relatives.
Clifton says authorities were fairly certain they knew the victim's identity but would not release it until family members have been notified.
