Boone County Sheriff's Department found several registered sex offenders in violation with the terms of their registration today.
Sheriff's deputies spent today randomly checking addresses of registered sex offenders throughout Boone County to ensure compliance with state and federal laws.
About 70 locations were checked and although no arrests were made several offenders were found to be in violation with the terms of their registration. Convicted sex offenders are required to register at the sheriff's department periodically and provide a current, valid address along with a DNA swab and other personal information.
Several offenders were found not to be living at the address they claimed as their residence and the sheriff's department will continue to investigate and arrests are likely. Offenders not at home today at the time of the initial visit can expect follow-up contact.
The sheriff's department is committed to enforcing the mandates of Sex Offender Registration laws. Violators are subject to arrest and prosecution.
