Boone County District Under Fire
Dave Griggs of the Fire District Board said, "To the very best of my knowledge, as well as all the communication from the auditor, there is absolutely no sign of any missing fire district funds or federal funds or anything."
But, Meinhart resigned anyway. Meanwhile, Boone County prosecutors have charged Jeremy Brady with sexually assaulting a female firefighter at Station 15 where he lived. That incident led the district to review its policy of letting firefighters live in their stations.
Up to 75 volunteers live in their stations in exchange for their work.
"Initially, we're not seeing anything of significance there, any major holes or flaws in the system," said Chief Steve Paulsell.
"All residents sign those policies, that they agree and understand them, and obviously this individual violated those policies," added Griggs.
Board members will decide Brady's future with the fire district after the sheriff's department completes its investigation. Until then, he's not allowed on fire station property. Brady's in the Boone County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond.
