Boone County Home Sales Up
"We were really happy to see how the numbers compared to previous years," said Carol Van Gorp of the Columbia Board of Realtors. "It just shows that we're doing well here in Columbia."
Realtors say Columbia is a different kind of market. People are primarily buying homes for themselves and not for investments, and Colulmbia is bucking a trend realtors are seeing on each coast.
"Just because you hear national media that the bubble is breaking, even though it's breaking among some major metropolitan areas, is not breaking in Columbia," said Brent Jones, Columbia Board of Realtors."
Realtors say right now it's a buyers market. If you're trying to sell your home, however, the competition is higher, which could mean your house stays on the market longer. Today, the average home is on the market for about four and a half months. Whereas a year ago at this time, the average home was on the market for a little less than three months.
With a 24 percent increase in the value of Boone County homes in the last four years, some sellers may decide its worth the extra wait.
