Boone County National Bank will be first local bank with Apple Pay
COLUMBIA - Boone County National Bank will be the first local bank in Missouri to offer Apple Pay.
Apple Pay was introduced last fall with a number of national banks. Last week, Boone County National Bank announced its decision to add the service.
"Our focus is very costumer-centric, so really just looking at what our customers want and what they kind of expect to have," Central Bank Product Manager Debra Lake said. "Apple Pay is being kind of a mobile solution that's just another way that they can use their card for transactions."
A few customers said this app may cause concern with information being stolen if their phone gets lost, but one said he thinks this is a good thing and should not not cause safety concerns.
"I think it's pretty safe because most people have passwords on their phones now, so even if they lost their phone, and they have a password that is pretty strong so I think it would be pretty safe," Columbia resident Bret Loudermilk said.
Card holders will be able to use Apple Pay at local retailers that accept contactless payments.
Apple Pay will not be available for Boone County National Bank until February and will only work on certain Apple products.
Apple has partnerships with 220,000 stores with Apple Pay available from a variety of merchants.
