Boone County Republicans recommend new clerk
COLUMBIA - The Boone County Republican Central Committee said Saturday it will recommend Taylor Burks to Governor Eric Greitens as the new Boone County Clerk.
Mike Zweifel, the committee's chair, said Burks was the best option.
"With Taylor, I believe he can bring some longevity to the position," Zweifel said. "And help our sailors, who are overseas get their votes in on time."
The committee looked at two candidates Saturday. Each gave a breif presentation, then committee members questioned them.
Zweifel said he would send his recommendation to Gov. Greitens Saturday night.
The new clerk will replace Wendy Noren, who had served as Boone County Clerk since 1978. She stepped down from her position June 23 because of declining health.
Noren called resigning, "by far the hardest task I have ever had to do in all my years as County Clerk."
Zweifel said he expected the governor to make a decision on who the new Boone County Clerk should be in the next couple weeks, but didn't know for sure.
"We all knew going in that this is ultimately the governor's decision," Zweifel said.
The Boone County Democrats recommended Brianna Lennon for the position on June 22.
Until a new clerk takes over, Art Auer will run the clerk's office.
