BOONE COUNTY - Boone County Sheriff's deputies arrested a suspect near the Lake of the Woods exit Thursday afternoon after a car chase led to a crash.

Sgt. Michael Perkins said deputies arrested 39-year-old Timothy Scott from Colorado after deputies and a K9 unit found him near the Lake of the Woods exit.

Detective Tom O'Sullivan said a deputy spotted Scott driving a car with stolen plates on Interstate 70. The car had Colorado plates. O'Sullivan said the deputy started chasing the car.

Perkins said the driver tried to drive over the median on Interstate 70 Drive and then flipped the car. Perkins said he jumped out of the car and ran to a street nearby. Officers arrested him, and he was taken to a hospital.

"He was in and out of consciousness," Perkins said.

A neighbor said he saw Scott get arrested.

"He looked like he was banged up a bit like he had been in a wreck," Jesse Jones said.

Jones said he was surprised by how the police handled the arrest.

"For everyone talking about the police being violent, they were pretty nice to the guy," Jones said.

Perkins said deputies are asking prosecutors to charge Scott with first-degree tampering, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of certain weapons, property damage, driving while revoked and careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident.

Scott was in jail on a $29,000 bond Thursday night.
