COLUMBIA - Boone Electric Cooperative is currently experiencing several widespread power outages affecting about 2500 members. A much heavier and wetter snow with gusty winds is the main contributing factor. The Cooperative does have personnel answering phones but encourages members to utilize its automated system for reporting power outages. Crews are being dispatched and are working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.
As a reminder, if your lights are blinking, that means the system is working properly. Boone Electric's system has a safety feature built into the high-voltage electric lines so that power blinks (momentarily shuts off) when something comes in contact with power lines.
