COLUMBIA - Boone Hospital Center debuted two newly renovated floors Monday. The $10.7 million renovation adds 64 more private patient rooms to the hospital.
The renovated floors will house the medical specialties unit and the joint replacement center.
Including the newly renovated rooms, 95 percent of the hospital's rooms are now private. Chief Nursing Officer Mary Beck said private rooms are a huge improvement for patients.
"It will really allow our patients to have privacy, improve infection prevention, and reduce the risk of falls," Beck said.
Other than privacy, the new rooms also have a handrail that goes from the bed to the restroom, which is designed to prevent patients from falling on their way to the restroom. Beck also said the facility features artwork from Missouri artists.
"It really is a nice respite for our patients and their families to pause at a piece of artwork, to take them away from perhaps the reality they're dealing with," Beck said.
Patients will move into the new floors Tuesday.
Monday's ribbon cutting came on the heels of the opening of the new Stewart Cancer Center early this month.
