Boone Woman Arrested for Allegedly Selling Copyrighted Movies
BOONE COUNTY - The Sheriff's Department Cyber Crimes Task Force arrested a 46-year-old woman Thursday for allegedly counterfeiting copyright protected movies.
The Motion Pictures Association of America (MPAA) received a complaint in January about a potential Mid-Missouri resident selling copyrighted movies on the Internet.
An undercover correspondent bought and received two movies in the mail from the suspect, according to the department.
The Cyber Task Force launched a criminal investigation and said they traced the sales back to Cathy Serino's home in Boone County.
Investigators said they recovered several thousand copyrighted movies from Serino's home after serving a warrant.
Serino is currently in the Boone County Jail and a judge set her bond at $4,500.
