Boonville High School Enrollment Booming
Administrators said high school enrollment is rising so much, they need to add space to the building.
Terry Ehlers has taught there for 17 years.
"I've been working at Boonville High School since 1989, and we had 400 in the building," he said. "I've seen it grow from 400 to 550."
Enrollment rose this academic year from 525 to 550, with next fall's total projected at 579.
Principal Jay Webster is trying to increase parking, add lunch shifts and hire more teachers for fall. But, he said, the school will still be crowded.
"There are hours right now where the classrooms are completely full, and I have classes in every classroom," he explained. "So, even with additional help as far as teachers, we're still going to have a problem as to where to put different classes different hours."
If enrollment increases to 600, Webster said the school will have to add onto the building. But, there are no plans to do that yet.
School administrators expect enrollment to continue to rise as a new hotel and other businesses open in Boonville.
