Boonville YMCA To Receive Renovation
Renovations to the old Johnston Fieldhouse will start in phases addressing the most pressing needs first.
The city will begin by fixing all of the windows and provide heat to the gymnasium; later fixing gutters, repairing gym floors, placing a dehumidifier in the pool house, and making ADA improvements.
"It will actually end up costing the city in the neighborhood of $1.6 to $2 million dollars," Director of parks Gary Nauman said.
Although the renovations are estimated to take three years, they plan to still operate around the construction.
"the YMCA, the city, and the architects are working together to make our program still operate with the least amount of breakdown as possible,so that the members are not interrupted in their normal workouts," Executive Director of Boonslick/Heartland YMCA Theresa Hendrix said.
The only time they plan to shut down is during their normal maintenance week to make improvements to the pool.
"One of our goals was to have a joint city, YMCA community recreation center type atmosphere, all we're going to do, or what we plan to do here is enhance that," Nauman said, "making necessary improvements, making it more accessible, and giving the patrons a better place to go down and workout."
If the renovations go as planned, all improvements will be completed by 2008.
