COLUMBIA - More than 1,000 Boy Scouts from across the state came in town Saturday to pursue merit badges. This is the second year the event has taken place on MU campus. The event began in the morning at Tiger Plaza with an opening ceremony, and the scouts proceeded to their merit badge classes.

One of the newest merit badges this year is Search & Rescue, which highlights the importance of the skills with recent natural disasters such as the tornado in Joplin and Hurricane Sandy.

MU fraternity Alpha Phi Omega, which affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America, helped host the event.
