Broken Windows? Peeling Paint? City of Columbia's Checking
COLUMBIA - A city office will send out teams later this week to check whether residential properties in Columbia's central city neighborhoods are being kept up to code.
The Neighborhood Response Team will begin assessing properties on Wednesday, March 23, in neighborhoods around downtown Columbia, including the East Campus, Benton-Stephens, North Central, Ridgeway, and Douglass Park neighborhoods.
A statement from the city says the teams will only note violations that can be seen from the public right of way, like "peeling paint, broken windows, and trash in the yard."
The teams include a building inspector, the city's neighborhood response coordinator, a senior environmental health specialist, and a police officer knowledgeable on the city's codes.
