Brookfield man shot after allegedly hitting officer with ATV
BROOKFIELD, Mo - A man was hospitalized late Sunday night after he was shot while allegedly leading police on a chase on an ATV.
The Brookfield Police Department started chasing the ATV after reports the driver was operating in a careless manner. At one point, the driver went onto private property but had to turn around. By that time, a Brookfield police officer had gotten out of his vehicle and was trying to talk to the ATV driver.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the ATV driver hit the police officer with the vehicle. The police officer then shot the suspect twice.
The 39-year old Brookfield man was seriously hurt and was taken to a Columbia area hospital by helicopter.
The police officer suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from Pershing Memorial Hospital in Brookfield. The officer has been placed on administrative leave per department policy.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is investingating the incident with the assistance of the Brookifield Police Department and the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
