Burglary Suspect who Fled From Hospital Sentenced
SPRINGFIELD (AP) - A man who escaped from a hospital after being shot during a burglary attempt has been sentenced to 20 years in prison. Danny Waggoner Jr., of Harrison, Ark., was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to burglary and other crimes.
The 24-year-old was shot by a woman who found him breaking into her home in Powersite in June. He tried to run but was captured and taken to a Springfield hospital.
The Springfield News-Leader reports he sneaked out of the hospital. His escape wasn't discovered for five days because the Taney County Sheriff's Office missed a voice mail message from the hospital staff.
He was arrested in South Dakota three months later.
Prosecutors say the woman who shot him was justified and she did not face charges.
